A breakthrough after a quiet first half
Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on 18 October 2026, with Noni Madueke scoring the decisive goal in the 80th minute. The result gave Arsenal their sixth Premier League win in seven matches.
The first half was short on clear chances: neither team had a shot on target. Forest threatened through Dan Ndoye, whose effort was turned behind, while Arsenal struggled to make their possession count. The match remained goalless at the interval.
Mikel Arteta brought Madueke on for Eberechi Eze at half-time. In the closing stages, Declan Rice supplied the ball to Madueke, who cut inside and shot; a deflection sent the effort past goalkeeper Matz Sels. The winner came after Rice had missed a promising chance, and Forest pressed for an equaliser late on. Chris Wood and Liam Delap had opportunities, but Arsenal held on.
A home scoring drought and a narrow defeat
The defeat was Nottingham Forest’s third successive league loss. Forest had not scored in their first five home matches in all competitions, a run that included four home league matches. Their latest attempt to end the drought came in the closing stages, when Chris Wood and Murillo had chances before Arsenal defender Ezri Konsa denied Liam Delap with a late challenge.
Oliver Glasner said the result was difficult to take and praised his players’ effort, while acknowledging that Forest needed to make more of their opportunities. Arsenal remained second in the Premier League, three points behind leaders Manchester City.
